2008 “No Spit” All-Star campaign Campaign will honor baseball players who pledge not to use
tobacco products According to the Kentucky Youth Survey 2006,
23-percent of high school males have used some form of smokeless tobacco
in the past 30 days. The
goal of No Spit All-Stars is to increase awareness of the dangers of using
smokeless tobacco among high school baseball players!
It is important that young people throughout the state understand
that smokeless or spit tobacco products are not a safe and have no place
in youth sports. St. Xavier’s Damon McCormick won the inaugural Get
Healthy Kentucky “No Spit” All-Star of the Year.
McCormick pitched four shutouts and three one-hitters for St. X,
finishing his senior season with a 6-2 record and a 1.91 earned run
average. At the plate,
McCormick hit .300 with 19 stolen bases for head coach John Jefferson.
McCormick is currently the starting shortstop for Each week during the high school baseball season,
TSF Radio Network will accept nominations from fans, coaches, parents, and
the media for the weekly honor. The
nominees must sign the GHK “No Spit” All-Star pledge not to use spit
tobacco or any tobacco products – on or off the field!
