4th Army Iron Man in Kansas

Army Iron Man honors the best two-way high school football player in Kansas recruiting territory

KANSAS CITY , MO– The U.S. Army Kansas City Recruiting Battalion is proud to announce the launch of the 4th Army Iron Man presented by Jostens, which honors the best two-way high school football players in the battalion’s Kansas recruiting territory.  Playing and excelling on both offense and defense, the Army Iron Man must demonstrate physical and emotional strength, as well as strength of character.  The Army Iron Man embodies the qualities of Army STRONG!  

In 2009, Minneapolis High School ’s Jake Eckert earned the honor with 2,066 all-purpose yards with 24 touchdowns while making 102 tackles on defense and returned an interception for a touchdown.  

In 2008, Shawnee Heights ’ Austin Flohrschutz earned the Army Iron Man of the Year for Kansas .  Flohrschutz had 841 yards of total offense and 10 touchdowns while recording 100 tackles on defense with six tackles for a loss, one sack, one fumble recovery, one forced fumble, two interceptions, and one pass defended.  Flohrschutz is currently a freshman linebacker at Washburn University .  

In 2007, the U.S. Army Kansas City Recruiting Battalion honored Louisburg ’s Jason Spradling as the first-ever Army Iron Man of the Year in Kansas .  Spradling rushed for 1,458 yards and scored 22 touchdowns.  On defense, Spradling made 50 tackles, three tackles for a loss, three interceptions, one fumble recovery, and one forced fumble.  

“The Sports Flash” (TSF) Radio Network will accept nominations each week from high school football coaches, athletic directors, media members, and high school football fans.  Each week, high school football fans from throughout the battalion’s recruiting territory will have the opportunity to vote for the winner of the Army Iron Man of the Week.  At the end of the regular season, fans will vote for the Army Iron Man of the Year from among the weekly winners.
