Army Iron Man honors the best two-way high school football players  

CLEVELAND , OHIO The U.S. Army Cleveland Recruiting Battalion is proud to announce that Lake Catholic ’s Richie Sanders is the Army Iron Man of the Week for the first week of the season.  Sanders rushed for 239 yards on 32 carries, scored two touchdowns, and returned an interception for a 62-yard touchdown in Lake Catholic ’s 28-21 win over ST. Ignatius.   AS a weekly winner, Sanders is a finalist for the Army Iron Man of the Year for Ohio .  

The Army Iron Man campaign returns to northern Ohio after a two-year hiatus.  In 2008, the Army Iron Man campaign honored Louisville ’s Bob Swigert as northern Ohio ’s first-ever Army Iron Man of the Year.  Swigert earned second-team Division II All-Ohio honors as a defensive back, grabbing four interceptions, making four pass deflections, and 27 tackles.  On offense, Swigert had 45 receptions for 531 yards and four touchdowns while averaging 32.8 yards/kick-off return with two kick-off returns for touchdowns.   

“The Sports Flash” (TSF) Radio Network will accept nominations each week from high school football coaches, athletic directors, media members, and high school football fans.  Each week, high school football fans from throughout the battalion’s recruiting territory will have the opportunity to vote for the winner of the Army Iron Man of the Week.  At the end of the regular season, fans will vote for the Army Iron Man of the Year from among the weekly winners.
