Kittanning reached the playoffs for the first-time in 27 years, losing to Trinity, 61-45 on Friday.

Central Catholic, the 12th-seed, upset fifth-seeded Hempfield in the WPIAL Class AAA playoffs, 70-44.  The Vikings have won three-straight and four of their last five games.

Don Dimoff – Red Lion

 

Red Lion won the YAIAA tournament title with a 61-35 win over York Catholic in the championship game, earning Dimoff’s 400th career win.

Ernie Koontz – Upper St. Clair

 

Upper St. Clair, the 14th-seed, upset third-seeded Gateway, 55-53, in the first-round of the WPIAL Class AAA playoffs.  It was the Panthers’ first playoff win since 2008.

Melissa McQuade – Shaler

 

Shaler, the 13th-seed, upset fourth-seed Kiski Area, 46-41, in the first-round of the WPIAL Class AAAA playoffs.

Mechanicsburg had six individual champions in the District 3, Section 1-AAA tournament and place 10 of its 14 wrestlers in the District 3-AAA tournament.

Bermudian Springs won the District, Section      1-AA title with 218.5 points with the Eagles advancing 13 wrestlers to the district round.

Spring Grove won the District 3, Section V-AAA tournament as four wrestlers won sectional weight-class titles for the Rockets’ fifth-straight sectional title.
